Greek freddo cappuccino is chilled espresso over ice with a layer of cold milk foam. This one-serving version uses 4 US fl oz espresso, 2 teaspoons sugar if you want it, and 1/4 cup nonfat milk.
What Is a Freddo Cappuccino?
A freddo cappuccino is Greek iced espresso topped with cold frothed milk. A freddo espresso is the chilled espresso without the milk layer. Here, the milk is frothed cold rather than steamed for a hot cappuccino.
This recipe measures 4 US fl oz of brewed espresso, about 120 ml. Follow your machine’s brewing instructions to obtain that volume. Four fluid ounces is not a universal double shot.

Ingredients
- 4 US fl oz (about 120 ml) freshly brewed espresso
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar, optional
- 1/4 US cup (about 60 ml) cold pasteurized skim milk
- Ice cubes for serving

Method
- Brew and measure 4 US fl oz (about 120 ml) espresso into a serving glass suitable for hot liquids. Stir in the sugar, if using, while the coffee is hot. Let rest for about 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, froth the cold skim milk with a handheld frother for about 60 seconds.
- Add a handful of ice to the espresso. Carefully spoon the milk foam over it and serve immediately.

How Do You Make the Cold Milk Foam?
Use cold nonfat milk and a handheld frother. Froth it for about 60 seconds, then spoon the foam over the iced espresso. Other milks can need different handling; make the foam just before serving.
Sugar and the Coffee Base
Sugar is optional. When using it, dissolve it in the hot espresso before cooling. The measured recipe here uses 2 teaspoons; it does not define every Greek cafe’s sweetness labels.
Aerated Coffee Option
You can also mix the espresso with ice in a drink mixer, then strain it over fresh serving ice. Follow the mixer’s instructions for hot liquids. No fixed mixer time is specified here; add the milk foam just before serving.
Is Instant Coffee the Same Drink?
This recipe uses brewed espresso. An instant-coffee preparation needs its own quantities and directions; follow the measured espresso method here.
Storage
Keep milk at 40 F (4 C) or below until frothing and follow its label, consistent with FDA refrigeration guidance . Use pasteurized milk; FDA explains the risks of raw milk . Make the finished drink for immediate service.
Without a Frother
Use a handheld frother for this preparation. Jar, whisk and blender methods need their own matching recipe; the sixty-second timing above applies to this handheld-frother method.
